The A-9 was the standard cloth flight helmet used by pilots and aircrews in warmer climates or inside the cockpits of aircraft where heavy shearling wasn't necessary. 42 G 6861 and A. The "42" indicates the contract year (1942), placing this right at the beginning of the major US air offensive. The Material: It's made of durable cotton gabardine.

The "Indented" Features: Notice the three leather straps with oxygen mask snaps and the goggle tabs on the sides. These were designed to hold the standard B-8 or AN-6530 goggles and the A-14 oxygen mask in place during flight.

Size: It is marked Small, which was very common for that era. Take to the skies with an authentic piece of WWII Aviation history. This is a genuine U.

Army Air Forces Type A-9 Summer Flight Helmet. Issued to pilots and aircrews during World War II, the A-9 was the go-to headgear for warm-weather missions or for crews operating in protected cockpits. This particular helmet is a beautiful 1942 contract survivor from the early years of the war. The Details: The helmet is constructed from heavy-duty olive drab cotton gabardine.

It features all of its original hardware, including the oxygen mask snaps and goggle retention tabs. The interior remains remarkably clean, featuring its original black-and-white woven contract label: Type A-9, Drawing No. Condition: This A-9 is in excellent vintage condition. Unlike many found today, the shearling chin-strap pad is still soft and white.
