I spent several hours researching this. I believe it belonged to KJ Stinson. That name is on the back of several of the portrait photos. Also an address for Dubuque Avenue is on the back of a photo developed in Long Beach. The induction Ensign photo looks to be May 1944. My guess is that Ensign Stinson graduated from college in 1943/4 and underwent pilot training and ended up as a seahawk floatplane pilot that was being introduced at this time. The Iowa had just been in the 1944 typhoon and lost its seaplanes in this calamity with 3 destroyers lost in the storm. She had to go back to SFO to refit a bent shaft and provision including new seaplanes which seem to include the seahawks. Perhaps this is where the ensign fits in? The photos included clearly put him in Nagasaki, Hiroshima and Tokyo Bay. There are first hand photos and not reprints and many have him in them. There are pictures of other warships including the NJ, and the OK City. It is possible he was on one of them and after several hours I could not find his service records and that is the rest of the puzzle. He easily fits into the timeline of the Iowa given its need to go to CA in late 1944. Someone may also be able to place the plane numbers including the 16 on the tail and the cowling numbers. Interestingly, there are no surviving Seahawks and it was a short lived plane that gave way to the helicopter of the same name. There are about 85 photos.

Most are of him with his plane but a lot of the A Bomb devastated cities. The trees are bent with the wind of the bomb in one and I have shown a close-up of the Hiroshima City Hall. All of this was picked by one of my pickers in Southern CA out of the same house. That is all the information I have. More research is needed but a unique lot.
