This helmet was used by Soviet Air Force high-altitude jet pilots and cosmonauts in pressure suit training and experimental flights during the 1960s-70s. My late father received the helmet as a gift from the soviet government while serving at the US Embassy in the late 1970s. The CCCP on the helmet is hand-stenciled and hand-painted (a common practice in the 1960s). Helmet has been stored indoors in a climate-controlled environment. Features: - Full metal-rimmed visor with locking mechanisms - Detachable comms cable and dynamic microphone mount - Brown ribbed breathing hose with standard Soviet fittings - Green canvas neck seal with zipper and hardware intact - Includes original fabric liner and headset component.
Condition: This helmet is in remarkable vintage condition. The fiberglass shell shows some typical surface wear, but no major damage.
The visor is intact and clear, with some expected age-related scuffing. All connectors and latches appear functional. Fabric elements are in good condition with some patina. See photos for full detail.
Provenance: These helmets were part of the VKK-6 full pressure suit system and were used in MiG-25, MiG-31, and other high-altitude/reconnaissance programs, as well as in early cosmonaut conditioning. Whether you're a Cold War collector, aviation historian, or enthusiast of Soviet aerospace technology, this rare GSh-6A helmet will make an outstanding centerpiece for your collection. Item: GSh-6A High-Altitude Helmet Markings: "???? " painted on dome, oxygen port marked 6042 Materials: Fiberglass shell, steel visor frame, cotton liner, integrated communication fittings Origin: Soviet Union, ca. 1960s-1970s Intended Use: High-altitude pressure flights and cosmonaut training Includes: Helmet with visor, integrated hose, comms plug, and inner liner Serial / Reference: 0591596 (from tag inside helmet - photo included). This item is part of the Cold War aerospace legacy and was likely used in conjunction with the VKK-6 partial pressure suit system by high-altitude reconnaissance or interceptor pilots operating aircraft such as the MiG-25 or MiG-31, or during ground-based cosmonaut training programs. To the best of our knowledge and research, this helmet is original, unrestored, and in authentic vintage condition.
