The helmet is size LARGE. This flight helmet is assembled from parts of two Spanish flight helmets. The visor cover of the other Spanish camo flight helmet (Ala 11 & Mirage IIIEE/DE) was broken and the dark visor was also damaged, so I replaced them with the corresponding parts of the Torrejón Ala 12 (F-4C/RF-4C Phantom II) flight helmet (visor cover & dark visor).
The edge roll has a couple of tears and wear due to age in normal places. The dark visor has two small scratches and the gray plastic covers of the radio headsets also has a couple of small holes in both headsets.
The right small hole is visible in the pictures and the left one is hidden (up). I painted this ex-camo Spanish Mirage flight helmet & F-4 white visor cover newly with Fosco and Tamiya spray paints. I added the original captain's insignia sticker I removed from the Ala 12 Phantom helmet, the original squadron sticker from the 211th Squadron (Ala 21) and the "Captain Castro" name tapes to this helmet. The 211th Squadron of the 21st Wing (Ala 21), which operated from Morón air base, was an attack fighter squadron that flew Northop/Casa SF-5A & SF-5B Freedom Fighter aircraft on ground attack missions. The sister squadron (Escuadrón 212) flew the same aircraft with cameras (SRF-5A/B) on reconnaissance flights.
I have an original HGU-2A/P (late) flight helmet from the 211th Squadron with colors faded by about 50 years of hot Spanish sun. The colors of this reproduction of the 211th Squadron somewhat resemble the original Spanish Air Force camo helmet. Camo Spanish flight helmets are extremely rare.
I have seen only one during 25 years. I own that original camo helmet now. The price of the original camo is at least doubble even in Spain. This is the only jet era flight helmet, which I now have as an extra, after I got finally the new flight helmets I bought in the winter back in their new positions during the traditional spring cleaning. I still need to fit & fix two mannequins in my collection room... Space always runs out, so I have to sell something to make way for new "toys". I can consider also a swap deal/trade for Hellenic Air Force, Italian Air Foce pilot named & unit marked flight helmets.
Spanish MBU-5/P not included, because it belongs to Gando AB 464 Escuadrón SF-5A/B pilot's set ;O.
