From its inception, the Luftwaffe was on the cutting edge of aviation technology, introducing jet and rocket aircraft, ejection seats, and radical advances in flight gear. Their Me-109 and FW-190 fighter pilots favored the classic LKpN101 "net top" summer flight helmet, as its ventilated design reduced fatigue during high speed maneuvers.
